The Axios website, citing a US official and an informed source, reported the reactivation of a direct communication channel between US envoy Steve Witkov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqji in the past few days.
Axios said it was not yet clear how important the messages exchanged between Araqci and Witkov were, adding that it was the first known direct contact between the two sides since the United States and Israel began their war on Iran.
Axios quoted his sources as saying that Arakji sent text messages to Witkov. The website reported that the US official said that Washington “does not talk” with Tehran.
