The Wall Street Journal revealed, citing informed sources, that US President Donald Trump opposed military plans in Iran for fear of high losses in the ranks of US forces.
The sources explained that Trump rejected the proposal to control the island of Kharj, considering that American soldiers would be easy targets, and strongly opposed any operations that could lead to an increase in the number of casualties.
In a related context, Trump criticised what he described as the absence of European support after the downing of the plane and the loss of pilots in Iran, while following the progress of operations directly, relying in assessing its success on the number of targets that were destroyed.
The newspaper added that his publication on “ending Iranian civilisation” was improvised and was not part of the national security plan, noting that his main goal was to deter the Iranians and push for an end to the conflict.
